Education is woven into everything we do—how we prepare our caregivers before they ever enter a client’s home, how we support the families who are navigating senior care for the first time, and how we share what years of experience has taught us with the broader Metro Atlanta community. When the people involved in caring for an older adult are better informed—whether they’re a professional caregiver, an adult child managing care from two states away, or a discharge planner at a local hospital—the outcomes for that older adult are measurably better.
That’s why we invest in education the way we do. Not because it looks good. Because it works.
The Academy at CaraVita: Training Doesn’t Stop at Hire
Our internal training and professional development programs reflect a straightforward belief: caregivers who feel supported, educated, and professionally valued deliver better care. As well as housing a CNA training program, ongoing education is a condition of employment. CaraVita caregivers receive and have access to:
- Regular skills refreshers and competency check-ins
- Proxy care training for medication and specific health maintenance activities
- Condition-specific training to client needs such post-op activities with rehabilitation clients, use of adaptive equipment, and supportive in home exercise programs for balance, strength and range of motion
- Advanced Dementia Life™ training for caregivers working primarily with memory care clients
- Dementia Friendly Training and Second Wind Dreams Virtual Dementia Tour
- End of Life support from trained doulas
- Resistive bathing and ADLs training
- Infection control and blood borne pathogen training
- Continuing education opportunities tied to changes in clinical best practices
When a client’s needs change—a new diagnosis, a post-hospitalization recovery, a progression in cognitive decline—the caregiver’s training adapts with them. Our clinical team plays a direct role in that ongoing development, providing real-time guidance and supervision that keeps the Academy at CaraVita learning grounded in actual care situations.
Staff Training
CaraVita’s commitment to caregiver development extends well beyond the Academy. We also provide training and professional development for caregivers at outside communities and facilities, including CaraVita’s own Masterful Moments memory care training program, Second Wind Dreams Virtual Dementia Tour and GARD’s Dementia Friendly Program. The Masterful Moments training program is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association for successfully completing curriculum review and incorporating its evidenced-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations in the following topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.
We believe a rising tide raises all boats, and that having a wealth of highly trained, quality caregivers will help continue to make Roswell and the surrounding Metro Atlanta areas a place that people want to live and work.
Family & Community Training
Across the United States, more than 53 million people provide unpaid care to an aging family member. Most of them had no preparation for the role. They learned on the fly—absorbing information during rushed hospital discharge conversations, searching online at midnight, calling siblings for advice nobody actually had.
Since 1998, CaraVita has been working alongside these families. We know what they don’t know when they start, what catches them off guard in the middle, and where they need support they rarely ask for. Our family and community education programs exist to close that gap—before it becomes a crisis.
Resource Library
CaraVita’s Resource Library is a free collection of guides and tools for families navigating senior care decisions in Metro Atlanta. Built on nearly three decades of experience working alongside families in every stage of this journey, it covers the questions we hear most—when to ask for help, how to have difficult conversations, what home care costs, how to pay for it, and what to expect once care begins. Everything in the library is available at no cost, with no obligation, to anyone who needs it.
Community Workshops & Events
CaraVita’s community workshops bring practical senior care education to families, caregivers, and professionals across Metro Atlanta—covering topics including dementia, aging in place, care navigation, and caregiver burnout. Our signature offering is the Virtual Dementia Tour®, a research-based experiential program developed by Second Wind Dreams that simulates the sensory and cognitive experience of living with dementia. Through firsthand simulation, participants develop an understanding of the disease that changes how they communicate, provide care, and advocate for their loved ones—in ways that information alone rarely does. Workshops are available by request to community organizations, healthcare teams, faith communities, and civic groups throughout the region. Personalized Family Training
Every family CaraVita serves receives training tailored to their specific situation—not a standard orientation, but a genuine education built around their loved one’s diagnosis, care plan, and the particular challenges their family is navigating. Led by our professional team, personalized family training might cover how to communicate effectively with a parent experiencing cognitive decline, what to monitor between caregiver visits and when to call, how to coordinate care responsibilities among siblings, or how to support a loved one through a post-hospitalization recovery. The goal is the same in every case: to make the family a confident, informed partner in their loved one’s care—because the best outcomes happen when the professional care team and the family are working from the same understanding.
